Myth: Plastic Surgery is for Women Only

Women aren’t the only ones interested in cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery these days.  It is becoming more common (and socially acceptable) for men to care about their appearance and want to do something about it, including seeking cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures.  According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, approximately 362,000 male cosmetic procedures were performed in 2018.

The most common non-invasive cosmetic procedures sought out by men include botox treatment, laser hair removal, PRP for hair restoration, Coolsculpting, and chemical peels.  These procedures provide men with natural results such as wrinkle minimization, permanent hair removal (bye-bye back hair!), targeted fat reduction, and a brighter, refreshed skin tone.  There is also no down time associated with these procedures and no one has to even know that anything was done at all!

The most common surgical procedure sought out by men in 2018 was liposuction, followed by male breast reduction (for the treatment of gynecomastia), eyelid surgery, nose surgery and tummy tucks (yes, men get tummy tucks too!).

While there are many reasons why men are more likely to consider plastic surgery now than ever before, some of the leading reasons include the desire to feel better about themselves, the willingness to make “a fix” to please a partner, the desire to look less tired or stressed, and to remain competitive in the workplace (American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2017).

If you are interested in any of the non-invasive procedures or surgeries listed above (as well as if you are concerned about anything else!), we treat many male patients in this office and would love to meet you!  Call (708) 524-1400 to schedule your consultation today!
