Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast through the use of implants.

There are two types of breast implants available in the US, saline implants and silicone implants.  Within these basic

categories are multiple different options available including round implants, shaped implants (also known as “gummy bear implants”), and structured implants (“Ideal Implants“), as well as different profiles that can be

used to try to meet a woman’s goals in terms of the size, shape, and feel of her breasts. There are advantages to each type of implant that Dr. Peters will be happy to discuss with patients during their personalized consultation.  Dr. Peters has also written several blogs outlining the nuances of these various implant options.  Please feel free to visit our blog page for more information about implants.

We’re excited to offer patients Crisalix 3D simulation to our patients considering breast augmentation!  During your consultation, a scan is taken of your body and Dr. Peters is able to show you 3D simulations of how several different implants may look in your body.   This can be quite beneficial in helping patients choose the implants that meet their size goals and giving them the confidence in their decision to move forward with surgery.

The surgery is usually performed using general anesthesia using an incision either around the areola or underneath the breast. A pocket is then created, either just underneath the breast tissue or below the chest wall muscle, into which the implants are placed. The skin is then closed using hidden, dissolvable stitches. Surgery generally lasts about 90 minutes.

Most women will feel tired and sore for several days following surgery and depending on what type of work they do, will take up to a week off work.
