Turning Back the Hands of Time!

Happy Mature Woman

The lines and wrinkles we develop on our face with time aren’t the only things giving away our age!  As we age, we lose volume in the back of our hands as well, making tendons more obvious and veins more visible.  The skin can also lose its elasticity resulting in a “crepey” texture.  Additionally, years of repeated UV exposure can result in hyperpigmented spots known as “sun spots” or “age spots”.   Now is the time to stop letting your hands give away your age!  There are a few non-invasive treatments you could have done to help address these issues:

Radiesse

Radiesse is the first and only dermal filler approved by the FDA for injection into the back of the hands to correct lost volume.   By providing volume, Radiesse helps to minimize the visibility of veins and tendons, while providing a smooth natural result.   Radiesse is comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in gel.  Once injected, it provides immediate volume and correction, but continues to work by stimulating the body to produce its own natural collagen, creating results that last a year or more in most patients!  To learn more about Radiesse treatment for hands, click here.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

Intense Pulsed Light therapy, also known as “IPL”, is commonly used to address hyperpigmentation on the face, but can also be used to treat the dark spots on the hands as well!  During the treatment, light is used to target the melanocytes that are responsible for the pigment within the dark spot.  The melanocytes absorb the energy from the light and become “damaged”.  After a week or two the damaged melanocytes make their way to the surface of your skin and flake off, leaving behind a lighter spot, or in some cases no spot at all!  If you’d like to learn more about how IPL works, check out our IPL blog here.

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels can be performed on the back of the hands and fingers to provide exfoliation and antiaging effects as well as to target specific conditions.  Benefits of a peel on the back of the hands include softer, smoother skin with reduced crepeyness, a more even skin tone and reduced appearance of dark spots.

All of the treatments can be completed in under an hour and there is little to no downtime following the procedure!  If you are interested in learning more about any of these procedures, or are curious if treatment is right for you, call to schedule your complimentary consultation today!  (708) 524-1400
